"Making A Difference" — Your Difference!
Volunteerism and the community spirit
Pivot Point International, Inc.,has always been a strong advocate of community involvement by cosmetology students and salon professionals alike.
For the past several years, PPI has supported the work of The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children™ (NCMEC) as well as other organizations. Fundraising efforts through an annual "Canning Drive" by students and PPI corporate school faculty and executive staff, as well as cut-a-thons and donation campaigns, have already raised more than $240,000 for the Center's work in finding missing children.
Now, Pivot Point is going one step further, by doing what it does best–educating. The company has created an educational program, entitled Making a Difference, A Guide to Volunteerism and Community Service, that explains why volunteering is such an important aspect of professional cosmetology and life-skills training. This education benefits young people in social and emotional development and teaches them civic responsibility.
The program is geared for cosmetology students across the country, but can be adapted for use by any salon, organization or company that wants to include community service in their curriculum in order to learn the importance of giving back to one's community.
Making a Difference, A Guide to Volunteerism and Community Service focuses on many areas of skills-building that volunteering provides for business as well as personal growth, including:
- Building business contacts
- Enhancing leadership skills
- Improving critical thinking, responsibility, teamwork
- Building self-esteem, self-confidence and self-motivation
- Meeting and broadening your circle of friends

- Tips on how to run a successful donation campaign
Student volunteers can select a charity of their choice, learn about the particular charity, and put to use the Three P's of successful fundraising: Planning your event, Publicizing it and Practicing ways to respectfully approach people to donate money.
Pivot Point International, Inc., through its corporate and member schools, has always helped cosmetology students prepare for the real world of salon work. With this new volunteering program, the company also helps prepare young cosmetologists to take a vital and active role in their communities. |
